Create and attach functions

A function is created at workspace scope and attached separately to each agent that needs it. Creating, attaching, prompting, testing, and publishing are distinct steps.

Create a reusable function

  1. Open Functions from the workspace navigation.
  2. Select the category that matches the outcome.
  3. Enter a clear name and description.
  4. Complete the category-specific configuration.
  5. Save the function.

Name a function after the business action, such as Book Service Appointment or Transfer to Billing.

Configuration rules

  • Use HTTPS for webhooks.
  • For Call Transfer, choose a phone number or same-workspace voice agent. Warm transfer applies only to a Wirevox-agent destination.
  • For Knowledge, choose one same-workspace knowledge base and optionally restrict retrieval to exact source names.
  • For Gather Information, add only required fields. A function can contain 1–30 standard and custom fields.
  • For Workflow, create 1–30 ordered steps. A step can reference an existing non-workflow action function from the same workspace.
  • For integrations, select actions from one provider and combine actions from the same workflow into one reusable function.

Attach a function to an agent

  1. Open the agent editor.
  2. Select Functions.
  3. Select Add Function.
  4. Filter the workspace catalog if needed.
  5. Select Add to Agent.

The panel groups attachments by execution stage. A disconnected integration is marked Unavailable or Disconnected and cannot be added until its provider is connected.

Attachment does not insert a complete action policy. Add exact markers from the prompt editor and define usage rules separately.

Review information collection

Open Infolist after attachment. It summarizes system caller fields, custom Gather Information fields, integration-required fields, and destinations such as Contacts, Notes, Webhook, SMS, Email, or Transfer.

Infolist is an inspection view. Edit the source function or integration when a field or destination is wrong.

Update or detach a function

Editing a reusable workspace function can affect every attached agent. Before changing inputs, destinations, selected actions, source restrictions, or workflow steps:

  1. identify affected agents;
  2. review their prompt markers and action rules;
  3. update and test each affected draft; and
  4. publish each agent that should receive the change.

Removing a function from an agent detaches it but does not delete the workspace function. Remove stale [[Function: ...]] references afterward.

warning

Deleting a workspace function is broader than detaching it from one agent. Prefer detachment when it may still be used elsewhere.

Draft and published behavior

The saved draft is used by browser testing. Live agents continue using the published snapshot until the updated draft is published. Connected tools can perform real external actions during an owner browser test, so use controlled test data.

Next step

For provider-backed actions, connect an integration. Then write complete action rules.
